On Saturday 21st June Shimna College was the hub for a cultural exchange. Locals and Mourne Conservation Volunteers were joined by displaced Sudanese from the Durfur region. Sharif, a geologist and originally from Sudan shared a detailed description of Marrah Mountains in Darfur to a wide audience. This was reciprocated by Dr. Siobhan Power from the Mourne Gullion Cooley Geotourism who shared the land history, rock type and formations of our very own Mournes.
Later on we were all quizzed on what we had learned!
Everyone participated in a ceilidh before being served a traditional Sudanese BBQ.
Many thanks to Shima College for providing an excellent venue, Mediation Northern Ireland, Sharif, Dr. Power and ADNI for making this day perfect.
