22nd august 2015. Northern Ireland Young Walkers gave up their usual weekend walking activities to help the MHT upland path repair team to carry out some repairs to the Glen River Trail which is the main route for walkers climbing Slieve Donard. An eroded unmade trail running parallel to the recently constructed trail was upgraded to make it sustainable and to increase the capacity of the trail at this point. With a peak of 2000 walkers per day recorded on this trail it is the most heavily used in the Mournes – and the most in need of maintenance. Thanks to the group for volunteering and helping us to keep paths sustainable and control erosion along this trail.
